Just 30 km from the border, San Sebastian (Donostia in Basque) is Spain’s most elegant seaside resort. Exploring coastal Spain inevitably involves visiting this exceptional city, often dubbed the “Pearl of the Cantabrian Sea”.

La Concha beach is the jewel in San Sebastian’s crown, acclaimed as one of Europe’s most beautiful urban beaches. Visit Bilbao and the Guggenheim Museum

Capital of Vizcaya, Bilbao has become a major cultural destination thanks to its famous Guggenheim Museum. To discover contemporary Spain, you must visit this city, which combines age-old traditions with avant-garde architecture.

Bilbao’s Guggenheim Museum, inaugurated in 1997, is one ofarchitect Frank Gehry‘s major works. Conceived as a great sculpture in titanium, limestone and glass, the building blends perfectly with the banks of the River Nervion. Its organic, undulating silhouette changes appearance according to the angle of view and the reflections of the light.

Since its inauguration, the Guggenheim Bilbao and Jeff Koons’ outdoor floral statue Puppy have become international symbols of the city. Inside, discover works by the great masters of modern and contemporary art: Richard Serra, Louise Bourgeois, Jeff Koons, Eduardo Chillida…

Beyond the museum, Bilbao is well worth an in-depth visit. Stroll through the Casco Viejo, the old quarter with its picturesque streets lined with pintxo bars and boutiques. Stroll along the Nervion to appreciate the city’s modern architecture.
